The Research Associate Program at GBI, in cooperation with NPS at Yosemite National Park is recruiting one (1) Wellness Program Assistant to support the park’s employee Health and Wellness Program.
The Health & Wellness Program Assistant will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day coordination and organization of the park’s employee health and wellness program by developing clear systems, guides, and processes that make projects easier to manage and sustain.
This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects, timelines, and communication efforts simultaneously. The assistant will work closely with the Health & Wellness Program Manager and partners across the park to support health & wellness initiatives, improve internal systems and processes, coordinate trainings and events, and strengthen employee outreach and engagement efforts.
Core Priorities:
1. Wellness Program Operations & Systems Improvement
This priority focuses on strengthening and sustaining the overall Wellness Program through organized administrative support and process improvement. A key emphasis is building efficient, repeatable systems that reduce workload dependency on future staffing and improve long-term program sustainability.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining program systems using Microsoft Suite (Teams, SharePoint, Forms, Lists, Outlook) and Power Automate to improve workflow efficiency and reduce manual processes;
- Creating and managing spreadsheets, databases, SOPs, trackers, and workflow documentation;
- Supporting internal and external communications, including newsletters, flyers, digital signage, outreach materials, and templates;
- Improving organization of program materials, files, and recurring processes for long-term usability; and
- Supporting scheduling, coordination, and administrative functions for the Wellness Program Manager.
2. Peer Support Program Development
The intern will support an advisory panel in program development
Responsibilities include:
- Researching peer support models, best practices, and implementation frameworks;
- Supporting design of program structure, including scope, purpose, and operating guidelines;
- Developing nomination and application processes, including eligibility criteria and selection rubrics;
- Assisting with creation of confidentiality guidelines, escalation pathways, and role boundaries;
- Coordinating recruitment, tracking applications, and supporting selection processes;
- Scheduling and organizing training logistics for peer support cohort (approx. 20 participants);
- Supporting development of training curriculum, onboarding materials, and resource guides;
- Building documentation, SOPs, and systems to ensure long-term sustainability of the program; and
- Supporting launch planning, communications, and ongoing evaluation of the program.
3. Events, Outreach & Employee Engagement Support
This priority supports direct employee-facing wellness programming and engagement activities across the park.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting planning, coordination, and staffing of wellness events and activities (e.g., Yosemite Farmers Market, softball, health fairs, & additional recreational programs);
- Assisting with event logistics, setup, staffing, and breakdown;
- Creating pre-event communications, attendee materials, and follow-up outreach;
- Representing the Wellness Program at orientations, tabling events, trainings, and outreach activities;
- Supporting employee engagement initiatives and on-the-ground program visibility; and
- Coordinating scheduling and logistics for recurring wellness events and trainings.
4. Other Duties as Assigned
- Providing additional administrative, coordination, or project support as needed to meet evolving needs of the Wellness Program, Safety Office, and partner initiatives; and
- Supporting emergent priorities in alignment with program goals and capacity.
Timeline:
- Term dates: July 2026 to December 2026, 24 weeks; and
- Schedule: Tues-Sat with potential for nights and holidays.

Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation: $22 hourly;
Benefits:

Housing: Shared house or apartment will be provided to the selected participant at no additional costs.

Training allowance: Not to exceed $150.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail;
- Ability to manage multiple projects, schedules, and deadlines effectively;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience coordinating events, trainings, or meetings;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment;
- Comfortable creating spreadsheets, tracking systems, and workflow processes;
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds and assist with event setup and breakdown;
- Must provide a valid driver’s license and possess a clean driving record; and
- Successful applicants must complete a Department of Interior (DOI) Background Investigation (BI) or submit paperwork to NPS human resources indicating an active and fully adjudicated BI has already been completed prior to beginning position. Preferred:
- Experience in graphic design;
- Interest in public health, employee wellness, behavioral health, or safety programming strongly preferred;
- Experience planning and coordinating events; and
- Experience supervising volunteers.
