The University of Louisville Stream Institute has an immediate opening for a qualified wetland scientist or ecologist to join our stream and wetland restoration design team. The new team member will participate in all aspects of the restoration process, including initial site assessment, project permitting, working with team members to develop wetland design alternatives, to long-term performance monitoring and evaluation of ecological lift. Work will include a mixture of field work and collaborative assessment work as part of a team of engineers and scientists. The ideal candidate will add to an experienced team working on all aspects of stream and wetland restoration, with opportunities to participate in applied research work and advanced technical training. This is a grant-funded position, renewable pending funding availability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The new team member will be involved in all aspects of stream and wetland restoration projects, including:

  • Management of ecologically focused aspects of projects.
  • Wetland delineations and stream assessments.
  • Vegetation surveys and vegetation community mapping.
  • Mapping invasive/ exotic species and recommending management strategies.
  • Developing planting plans for stream and wetland restoration projects.
  • Developing site maintenance plans for seeded herbaceous layers and planted shrubs and trees.
  • Collaboration with team members to develop and evaluate wetland design alternatives
  • Meeting with project stakeholders, sponsors, and regulatory agencies to discuss wetland restorations.
  • Responsibility for professional reporting and communication, including sections of mitigation plans, monitoring reports, biological assessments, and reports documenting plant communities and ecological conditions.

This work occurs in all seasons and working outside in harsh and adverse weather conditions should be expected. The job may involve walking long distances, bending, potentially lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), and performing other physical activities.
