The Wetland Summer Intern will assist with invasive species treatment and general stewardship of LRWP's Eagle Marsh and other wetland preserves.
Job Duties
• Use herbicide to control invasive plant species using backpack and power sprayers;
• Mechanical removal of invasive species by pulling or cutting;
• Assist with data collection;
• Assist with native plant propagation and installation;
• Maintain visitor amenities, including benches, boardwalks, trails;
• Assist with directing volunteers;
• Follow all proper safety procedures;
• Supervised by Lead Preserve Steward and Preserves & Volunteer Steward;
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Enrolled in or recently graduated from a university bachelor program studying environmental science, natural resource management, or related subject;
• Familiarity with Indiana’s natural communities of plants and animals is desirable;
• Experience using outdoor tools and light power equipment, or ability to learn;
• Ability to carry out multiple tasks in an independent and unstructured work setting;
• Ability to lift 40 pounds;
• Ability to hike uneven terrain for 1- 3 miles a day with up to 30 pounds on back
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have a dependable vehicle or transportation
Parameters of the Wetland Summer Intern position:
Position: Part-time (16-20 hours/week on average), Seasonal (11 weeks, mid-May to mid-August)
Hours: Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Pay Basis: $12 per hour
Working Conditions: Outdoors, uneven terrain, all weather conditions
Travel: Limited
