The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity as a Truck Driver 3. This position is a Truck Driver 3 for the Wildland Fire Management Division and the Forest Resources Division. This position will operate medium and heavy-duty trucks/semi-trailers to support multiple programs and project needs for the Department of Natural Resources. This position will coordinate deliveries and pickups with customers, as well as schedule trips for the program(s) requesting service in coordination with the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate a variety of weighted vehicles up to 60,000 Gross Combined Weight or more, including semi-tractors/trailers to pick up and deliver goods.
  • Conduct pre-operation checks for safety and all required equipment needed for operation in the current weather conditions.
  • Check loads to ensure they are secure and not subject to damage during transport.
  • Maneuvering vehicles safely in difficult situations, such as narrow passageways and inclement weather.
  • Maintain the safety of the vehicle, report needed maintenance.
  • Ensure vehicle safety and road readiness. 
  • Perform before and after safety inspection of the vehicle, add oils and lubricants as required, and report any needed repairs to the Fire Cache Manager.
  • Pick up and deliver goods to customers: 
  • Serve as the Department of Natural Resources representative when interacting with customers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate directly in loading and or unloading and placement of products, including utilizing hand trucks, pallet jacks, and or forklifts.
  • Ensure paperwork is completed for material picked up and delivered. Report paperwork or product discrepancies to the supervisor as soon as possible.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years of verifiable full-time experience operating any combination of vehicles with a Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 80,000 or more pounds.
  • A Valid “Class A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an airbrake endorsement.
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience in performing light service, inspections, and maintenance on automotive, small motorized, or heavy haul trucks and equipment.
