We partner with state and federal agencies, municipalities, and other stakeholders to develop and implement adaptive management strategies that protect threatened and endangered species, reduce human-wildlife conflicts, and advance ecological stewardship. We are seeking a Wildlife Biologist/Management Specialist to join our San Francisco Bay Area team. The successful applicant will be dedicated, thrive in the field, collaborate well, and bring focused creativity and problem-solving to every challenge. This role offers hands-on experience with nesting bird and special-status species surveys, satellite tracking, and wildlife conflict mitigation. The biologist will work with advanced tools and techniques, which may include but may not be limited to drones, lasers, thermal optics, remote-controlled vehicles, boats, and remote sensing technologies.
The position will be based primarily in San Mateo County, California, with the focus of this role supporting a comprehensive Canada Goose management program. For this program, the biologist will be working as part of a field-based team addressing human health and safety concerns while protecting sensitive resources. Primary duties will include active goose deterrence and hazing, biological monitoring/surveillance, data collection, reporting, public outreach and education, and close coordination with other project staff. However, for highly qualified and motivated team members, opportunities for growth and to work on additional and more diverse species and projects, throughout the Bay Area, may be available and include threatened and endangered birds, birds of prey, feral pigs, mountain lions, and/or other predators.

Key Responsibilities:
- Implement avian deterrence and hazing activities in accordance with established protocols and permit requirements, which may include the following equipment:
- Audial Deterrents
- Visual Deterrents
- High-powered Lasers
- Aerial and Amphibious drones
- Boats
- Assist with Canada Goose nest surveys, nest mapping, and egg addling
- Conduct direct and digital wildlife surveys and monitoring
- Perform digital data collection to support adaptive management decisions.
- Assist in preparing technical reports.
- Support public education and outreach efforts related to humane goose management practices.
- Coordinate field operations with other team members.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in wildlife management, avian biology, or a closely related field (field-based hazing or avian control work preferred)
- Ability to safely operate drones, boats, and field vehicles (or willingness to learn)
- Must be willing to obtain a valid CA driver’s license within six (6) months of employment
- Excellent field documentation, observational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, in remote outdoor environments, and under varying weather conditions
- Must be willing to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed by the project schedule
- Experienced in avian species identification and conducting protocol-level surveys
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional experience hazing Canada Geese, or other wildlife species using a variety of tools
- Project development and management experience
- Experience with MBTA/USFWS permits, ideally for Canada Geese, and permit compliance documentation
- Experience placing transmitters (GPS) on wildlife, ideally Canada Geese
- Drone (UAS) Part 107 certification or experience supporting aerial surveys.
- CA Boating License
- Experience hauling trailers (12’<) within city limits
- Familiarity with adaptive wildlife management strategies and working in urban or protected natural areas
- GIS or mapping software proficiency
