The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking ten(10) Wildlife Technicians. These positions are located at our Mud Lake WMA, Market Lake WMA, Sand Creek WMA, Deer Parks WMU and Tex Creek WMA located in Terreton, Roberts, St. Anthony, Menan or Ririe, ID. These are temporary positions and are expected to work up to 40 hours per week. Housing is available for the employee only. No pets.
Dates Needed:
Depending on WMA, these positions will begin from April 15 to May 31, 2026 and last to September or November.

General Information:
The Upper Snake Region has five wildlife management areas and one wildlife management unit with varied habitats and management goals. For further details see wma website https://idfg.idaho.gov/visit/wma
Supplemental Information:
Positions in this classification are used for habitat management areas, data management, wildlife management, or wildlife research. Some positions may travel to remote locations for data collection and maintenance activities and may require the physical ability to walk and backpack for several hours; operate four-wheel drive and/or off-road vehicles, in rugged terrain; lift and carry up to 65 pounds; and work in extreme weather conditions. Incumbents working on habitat projects may be working with herbicides and pesticides. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
Responsibilities:
• Completing habitat treatments.
• Monitoring habitat treatments.
• Noxious weed control.
• Conducting surveys on a variety of wildlife species.
• Monitoring and facilitating public use of WMA property.
• Waterfowl surveys, trapping and banding.
• Light construction and equipment maintenance.
• Maintaining fences, roads and levees, buildings and grounds.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Some knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements; and wildlife habitat
evaluation and management practices.
• Experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing biological data.
• Valid driver’s license.
In addition to the minimum qualifications the ideal candidate has a strong basis in knowledge of wildlife species and their habitats usually acquired through work experience or college coursework. The ideal candidate will have ability to identify wildlife and plant species and follow instructions to complete assignments with limited direct supervision. Ability and experience in operating and performing minor maintenance and upkeep on equipment to include tractors, four-wheel drive trucks, off-road vehicles, and/or motorized boats and using small hand and power tools would add to the ideal candidate. Additional consideration may be given at the time of the interview to candidates who have this experience.
