Position Title:        Environmental Educator
Reports to:            Director of Education
Schedule:              Part-time/as needed basis; ongoing throughout the school year
Compensation:    $13/hour for undergraduate students, $15/ hour for college graduated applicants
Start Date:            August 4, 2025

Summary: GBF seeks part-time Environmental Educators to assist our Environmental Education Team in delivering Environmental STEM Education programs throughout the Houston-Galveston region during the 2025-2026 school year. GBF’s Environmental STEM Education programs provide classroom and place-based educational experiences focused on Galveston Bay to over 15,000 students and teachers each year. The objectives of the programs are to instill knowledge and appreciation of the Galveston Bay ecosystem, inspire participants to break down barriers and open themselves to new experiences, and empower students to become life-long advocates for a resilient Galveston Bay.

The selected applicant(s) can expect to work 8-30 hours a week, depending on the time of year, in a variety of environments (classroom, field, or office). They will assist with the preparation of and implementation of education programs, conduct data entry, and must be able to work up to 10 hours on some dates, depending on the scheduled event. Educators will be trained in first aid, driving with a trailer, child abuse awareness, field safety, classroom and group management, as well as specific activities and lessons for education programs. 

*Educators can expect to work during the work week (Tuesday-Friday) with occasional Mondays and weekends (a few times a year) for a full-day (7-9 hours). We do not have the need for part-time educators that can only work a few hours a day.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Knowledge of coastal, environmental, and/or scientific processes
  • Experience, interest, and ability working directly with students of all ages and backgrounds
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills, and an outgoing personality
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Desire to work with a strong team of educators
  • Ability to lift 30+ pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors for an average of 8 hours a day in all conditions (sun, water, mud, etc.)
  • Confidence in making safe and relevant changes during program delivery due to unforeseen circumstances
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and willingness to learn how to drive a trailer
  • Knowledge of technology, Word, Excel, and other computer programs
  • If selected as a final candidate, a background check will be conducted
