Financial and Operations Manager
RiverLink, a 35-year old conservation organization, dedicated to promoting the environmental and economic vitality of the French Broad River and its watershed is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to oversee the financial and organizational operations. The preferred candidate will have first-hand working knowledge and experience with nonprofit, small business or government budgets and finances – and be comfortable overseeing a ~$1.2 million annual operation in partnership with the Executive Director and Board. This well established position utilizes a contractual partner (Outfitters4) to support payroll, accounts payable + receivable, and the audit/990. In addition to oversight of all accounting procedures, this position provides operational, management and administrative support and plays a key role in strategic planning and direction for the organization including a strong commitment to equity and inclusion in the workplace and throughout the watershed.
Reports to: Executive Director
Job type: Full-time, salaried (exempt from overtime), typically 9am to 5pm with infrequent weekend and evening duties.
Starting Salary Pay Range and Benefits: $50,000 - $55,000 annual salary (based on experience and pay equity within our organization), health insurance, life and disability, IRA contributions, holidays and generous paid time off.
Location: In-person, based in Asheville NC’s River Arts District. No relocation support available.
Financial responsibilities include:
- Creation, oversight, and management of annual budget via collaboration with program staff, Executive Director and Board Finance Committee.
- Day-to-day oversight of all financial activities including restricted fund management, weekly accounts payable and receivable processing with Outfitters4, and monthly review of financial statements.
- Board Finance Committee Liaison
- Oversight of Outfitters4’s payroll and benefits administration.
- Grant reporting support
- General ongoing financial related activities
Operational responsibilities include:
- A willingness to gain, or existing experience in, a small organization’s human resources in partnership with the Executive Director.
- General office management and administration oversight duties including staff benefits, organization insurance policies, building leases, etc.
- Provide general Board support.
- Provide general programmatic and development support, as needed.
- A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and in environmental and conservation work.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate should have some of the following:
- Strong working knowledge of budgets and organizational finances.
- Demonstrated prior work experience in a financial capacity.
- Past work experience with human resources at a small organization.
- Passion for being part of a small, dynamic team.
- Strong writing, verbal and analytical skills.
- Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
