Summary

This full-time, permanent position (which could be split into two part-time positions) is your opportunity to help solve some of the biggest climate and environmental challenges in our communities.

Social marketing (not to be confused with social media) applies modern marketing strategies to promote positive behavior change.

The Social Marketing Specialist is a key member of our tight-knit team of scientists, educators, policy experts, and community advocates. They report to our Managing Director for Community Resilience and work closely with our Communications and Executive Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement social marketing campaigns that motivate behavior change by residents and businesses to reduce water pollution and encourage water conservation.
  • Prepare campaign materials in print, mail, web, video, social, and face-to-face formats.
  • Help identify municipal policy adjustments needed to encourage desired behaviors.
  • Help maintain and build strong working relationships with key partners, including municipal staff, retailers, and business associations.
  • Track, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of social marketing campaigns and recommend strategies to increase the impact of our efforts.
  • Coordinate the work of the volunteer Social Marketing Advisory Committee.
  • Provide project management support for the Neponset Stormwater Partnership and the Neponset Water Conservation
  • Partnership, including planning meetings, developing annual work plans, preparing annual reports, and responding to stormwater hotline inquiries.
  • Occasionally, help prepare grant applications for new or special initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of NepRWA’s digital marketing efforts, using analytics to inform strategy and content development / curation across platforms, and cultivate adoption of best practices by staff across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Personal commitment to the goal of a healthy, accessible, and resilient river for all to enjoy.
    While experience with stormwater management, water conservation, and environmental issues is helpful, the focus of this position is on marketing, communications, and behavior-change expertise. We will provide training on watershed protection issues as needed.
  • Strong storytelling, writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience preparing campaigns in print, mail, web, video, social, and face-to-face formats.
  • Experience developing messages that resonate with socioeconomically diverse audiences and the ability to translate environmental science and policy issues for general audiences.
  • The ability to use behavioral science principles to analyze the motivations of target audiences and identify barriers that prevent them from undertaking desired actions.
  • Experience producing and managing digital advertising and organic social media content, and to quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate campaign performance.
  • Comfortable working as part of a fast-paced and highly collaborative team.
  • Five to six years of progressive work experience in a similar role, OR a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (marketing, journalism, public relations, sociology, economics, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field) and at least two to three years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience cultivating strong “client” relationships with project partners.
  • Project management experience, including developing project scopes, managing project deliverables and budgets, and completing timely project reporting.

Schedule, Compensation, and Hiring Practices

This is a full-time (40-hour per week) position, however, we are open to splitting this position into two part-time roles for the right candidate.

Our office works using a hybrid model with three days per week in the office (Canton, MA) and up to two days per week remote. The position requires occasional participation in evening meetings and weekend events. Our office culture emphasizes scheduling flexibility to accommodate a positive work-life balance.

Compensation includes a salary of $56,000 to $66,000 per year, health insurance, 11 paid holidays, paid sick time, paid vacation, and retirement contribution match.
